Getting back in the win column against the B.C. Lions, the Toronto Argonauts understand that they need to keep building forward.

Going into their game against the Edmonton Elks, the Toronto Argonauts know they remain in a position where they cannot take any opponent for granted.

Going up against Chris Johnes who joined the team last season as a defensive consultant to take over Glen Young. He helped the team clinch first in the East and now is in a position to make their desire to repeat as division champions a little bit tougher.

Through his many years of Henoc Muamba has learned firsthand why Jones is an effective coach and not one that can be taken lightly.

“He's the type of coach that's always gonna have his team motivated and he's gonna do what he's got to do to get them to be prepared and ready,” Muamba explained after practice this week. “He's a guy that studies tremendously he studies a lot. I know for a fact he's a guy that comes in early, leaves the building late, and watches film like I've never seen before. He'll pick up on small details like ‘hey, the heel is slightly lifted this way when it's a run and his heel is slightly lifted when it’s a pass play,’ he'll pick up on those things.”

The Argos got back in the win column with a gutsy performance over the B.C. Lions that ensured they remained in first place. However, that position isn’t fully secured with the Montreal Alouettes remaining within striking distance.

Toronto could have been in a position to clinch top spot in the division but the Alouettes victory over the Ottawa Redblacks kept them two points out of first. That means, the Argos margin for error is quite slim which is why getting the win was important even if it wasn’t their best effort on offence.

Cam Phillips believe that the loss to Calgary reaffirmed the process the team needs to take going into the final few weeks and how they get back on track against B.C.

“It reminded to to take one step at a time again, know that this is the most important game and not look at what anyone else is doing. Just handle our business,” Phillps explained. “It was a big game for us to be clutch in a fashion that we needed to be. I think we’re all excited about it but I think just not biting off more than you can chew and we want to be going into the playoffs playing our best ball.”

What the Argos will need to avoid from an offensive standpoint is the costly turnovers that have been an issue the past few weeks. The team should be feeling good about the team’s response when the Lions took the lead and the offence marched down the field and got a touchdown.

It shows that the ability is there but execution remains an area the team needs to improve on and try to be more consistent. That will be something to watch against the Elks.
